So I'm looking to build a gaming computer and many people have recommended the intel I5 processor. While this looks like a good processor for what I hope to be doing, is there an AMD processor that is a better bang for my buck out there? For refernence, I'm looking to be able to play "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor".

While what these guys say is true, an AMD processor won't bottleneck your machine either (unless you are playing a poorly optimized game). Typically AMD processors aren't recommended for gaming because they have poor single threaded performance. Multi-treading on AMD processors is very good.

If you play games that have Mantle, the would definitely help a AMD processor. With directX12 coming out soon, you can expect that games will become less about single threaded performance.

My recommendation - i5 is a safe bet for now. AMD 8350 is better for multi-tasking and will see a benefit from mantle and dx12.
