I really want my money's worth for now and the future which for me is like 4-6 years. In terms of that which line of CPUs seems more reliable and future proof. I mainly game, but here and there I'll record and use some multi-tasking which I'm sure Intel will do me just fine.

However with the new Ryzen and upcoming "Zen 2" or whatever they're calling it, I'm really debating getting Ryzen.

I just need like hands down which line of CPUs will last me longer and give me my money's worth the longest. In case you wanted to know, my current budget for a CPU is around 200-300. Little above 300 is no problem. I'm really considering these choices though:

Ryzen 5 1600
Intel i5 8600k

I know they're completely different price points, but if I were to choose Intel I would choose that and if I were to choose Ryzen I would choose that specific one. Both CPUs seems great at their price point.

If you plan on buying around january probably nothing will change much. I heard there will be Ryzen refresh in february but i don't think it will bring significant performance improvement over current Ryzen line up. It seems true Ryzen successor (called Pinnacle?) will only coming out in 2019 time frame.

When do you intend to purchase your system/either CPU's? There are multiple threads on this subject and most turn out to be troll posts. If you're going to buy in a few months time, best wait and see what the new Ryzen brings to the table and there may be news of Intel's offering post Coffeelake.

I'm planning on buying and building around the time of new years. Do you think they'll be any changes by then? I'm just trying to plan everything now so that I get everything right and get my true money's worth.
