ive been hearing alot of talking about polaris cards being unsupported soon, but i dont think amd would do that for two simple reasons: 1. the 470-480 and 570-580 are two of the best budget 4-8gb cards on the used market for cheap and 2. they still preform great to this day. but you can make argument that the r7 and r9 series (specifically the r9 390 and fury x) still preformed great yet got driver suport taken away anyways, but i wanted to know what you guys thought of it?

While it may seem daft as hell that they stopped gcn driver support for navi is still to this day idiotic you now have hundreds of people with gcn laptops hell amd is still selling these laptops with gcn.

As it stands they have discontinued drivers and that is mind boggling

but they are in form of laptops and they essentially just killed of there laptops
and you will be buying newer laptops if you're a die hard AMD follower.
they didn't just "kill off" anything but very old stock and used items.

but anyway, if your old laptop with a RX 4-500 series still functions as it should why would it be dead now just because it isn't getting the newest graphics driver updates?

Actually no why the hell would I suppose a company laptop side if there going to discontinued support on something that's barely out in a year.

That isn't the point if company's are selling these laptops they should have support that's the equivalent. 2023 is when that released

well, searching for newer(manufactured within the last year) AMD based laptops with an RX 400 or 500 GPU returns nothing.

so, i'm guessing you're just looking at old stock.

the latest that appear are RX 6000 based units.

2023.

Also let's just throw in the AMD Ryzen 5500 GT 2024

funny that none of those you linked even mention an RX 400 or 500 series GPU included.

i have a feeling you may not understand what this thread was about.
Um Polaris and Vega is the architecture that those cards are based on if they stop supporting Rx 400 and Rx 500 then there apus are dead in the water with same architecture apu graphics are Vega based. I'm stating it's idiotic that they have killed it with the same tech in new products that need those driver updates makes zero sense

im sure they would still support the apu side of things, just not the gpus.

I will say doubt it they may support patches for security that will be about it. The issue is amds GPU division is much smaller than there CPU.
From what I can tell next gen cards won't even have a high end possibly because rdna 4 is a dead end or they just don't have the man power and resources.

They don't have the fab space reserved. Doesn't make economic sense to make big gaming GPUs when they can make Instinct Accelerators and sell them for way more. Everyone uses TSMC and they have the least amount of capital to bully their way into a favorable position.

also, apus are still getting better and they already make these apus for ps, xbox, and steam.

My understanding was that sales in that market is slipping as well. Z1 and Z1 Extreme seem to have reached their target markets. Going to take a significant upgrade for people to keep buying new ones.

Console sales are in a similar position. Xbox particularly is not doing so well and Sony sales seem to have peaked and are now beginning a decline.

I think consoles in general have a bit of issues all around the issue in general is no game is designated to 1 platform it's always timed exclusives. Games have also got so big that developers are taking way longer to develop games. That and quite a few studios have vanished or being absorbed and shuttered. I also feel console games have kind of missed the point of them that couch coop is a thing.

As for sales of apus they could work if Sony or Microsoft ever entered the handheld space. The issue with MSI claw/ Asus/ etc is long term support. Z1 and extreme are based on rdna. Z1 would work better for tablets.
