Just so everyone is aware. I was not until tonight as I've been pondering adding a different cooler to my system. But I'd purchased a wraith prism cooler as I thought the rgb would look cool etc. However was getting slightly higher temps on my Ryzen 5 3600 than I would like.
Found by some checking online however that the wraith prism and I'm going to surmise the wraith max, apparently have a fan switch that is located on the bottom right side of the cooler. If you have the cooler mounted with the AMD logo on the top left side, the switch is on the bottom of the cooler on the right. It is very small and easy to miss.
Keep in mind, I have the cooler master mb511 case. I have 3 fans for intake in front, 2 on top that I use for exhaust, and one in the back that I use for exhaust.
My idle temps according to Ryzen Master are going as low as 28.4 C. Note that I'm not using a fan controller and j have the CPU fan set to run 100% in bios at all times.
Under full load, which was basically running Intel Burn test for 10 passes, the CPU got to just under 72C. I think about 71.8C
So I'm leaving mine set to high. I may still grab a hyper 212 cooler, who knows. But this helps for now. Be aware if you use the switch, there is a noticeable difference in how loud your cooler is.
Just to note, I redid the test and told Intel Burn test to run 15 passes instead of 10. After 15 passes in a row, my temps did hit 72. But after the test quickly dropped back to mid to low 30s.
Running cinebench r20 pushed it to 68. My cinebench score was 3563 in case anyone is wondering.
For full disclosure, the thermal paste I'm using on the wraith prism is Arctic Silver 5. I know some here say there's newer stuff that's good, so with the same setup you guys might get a better result. But that's the stuff I've used for years and usually works good for me.
The setup I have is
Ryzen 3600
ASRock AB350 pro 4 bios version 6.3
16gb Crucial ballistix ddr4 3000(2x8gb)
Samsung 960 Evo 250gb
2 1tb hard drives
GTX 1660 super
PowerSpec 750 watt bronze power supply
Cooler Master MB511 case with 6 120mm fans
AMD wraith prism cooler with rgb
Thank you all for reading. Just hoping in case someone is searching that this will be of use. The fan switch on the prism is apparently known, but it's small and can be missed. So if you have this cooler, you might try that before you switch it.
Edit *Redid the Intel Burn test for 10 passes after the system had been on for a little while and it did hit 72 C. Still in the safe zone for Ryzen. I still may look at the Hyper 212 or similar though. All of my testing was at stock with PBO off.
