AMD X2 3800: Temp okay?

I got me X2 3800 today and o'ced it to 2400 MHz (10 x 240 MHz). Vcore is
at 1,45 V.

With the boxed cooler I get about 58 C when running full stride with
PRIME95.

Is this okay?

My old A64 3000 only went to maximum 52 C runnig at 2475 MHz.

Is the dual core generally hotter than a single core?

And when should I really start to worry?

See my standard response not 10 posts ago (give or take depending on
newsfeed latency).

But a Zalman all copper cooler on it and you will probably get 40 to
45c at load :)

First off make sure that you run Prime95 on both CPU's? I have to use
version 23.5.1 of Prime95 and set the Affinity to 0 and 1 to utilize
both cpu's at 100% for the Torture Test. Any newer version of Prime95
thrashes on running the Torture Test.

My X2 4200+ is overclocked to 2450mhz (vcore is set to 1.35, default
was 1.3) and running the Prime95's Torture test on both cpu's produces
a maximum cpu temp of 52c with the stock cooler and it's fan spinning
at only 2200rpm. The cpu's windows idle temp is only 37c.

If you really want to lower your temp and quiet your system I highly
recommend the Coolermaster STC-T01-UW Atx/b case. I picked up one
for $158.99 with free shipping from Amazon.com. This tower case uses
120mm fans to cool the case, hard drives and has many air intake
screens.

Remember one of the best ways to cool your Cpu is to get the heat out
of your case.

Has AMD changed the coolers to 3 hole clips yet or are they still single
clip?

No, the cooler is still single clip, but then again the socket is also
only has a single tab.

The socket's tab is very wide and the retention mechanism is very well
designed, at least on the Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard. I have
confidence that the Cpu Fan is very well anchored.

FYI: The stock cooler for the X2 4200+ is the heat-pipe version. I
understand that the stock cooler for the X2 3800+ is a non-heat-pipe
version.

The socket? The cooler doesn't connect to the socket, it connects to the
retainer, and the one I have has 3 tabs. Well, only 2 at one each now as
the AMD cooler broke the single tab.

Sorry for the brain fart, yes I meant the retainer not the socket.

Ya i think its fine but i wouldnt want it to go over 60C personaly.
Id get a Koolance or Danger den setup or if you dont wana mess with water get a 110mm Pure CU Zalman heatsink.
