Hello, My name is ray and my computer has been getting a lockup for 3 months until yesterday when I finally fixed it. By fixing it I actually had to turn 2 of the 6 cores off just for it to startup successfully. I have a 500 watt power supply and a gtx 460 which requires a minimum of 450 watts

what I'm wondering is if you think the problem is a damaged CPU or just too weak of a Power Supply.

I'll be thankful for your responses. :)

Is this CPU one of those with two deactivated cores? If it is and you were able to unlock two of the cores but it was causing problems then it is unstable and there is nothing you can do about it. If it is a true six core processor and two cores are causing problems then I would RMA it, it would be a defective CPU.
