AMD XFX R9 280 w/ 550 Antec PSU

I have a 550 watt Antec power supply currently: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103941

Am I able to get away with running this card with the 6 to 8 pin adapter provided? The documentation says it's not supported, but the adapter is included in the packaging.

Other specs for my comp setup:
128 SSD
2 x 1 TB HDDs
16 GB DDR3 RAM
I7-860

It will probably run it , but you should upgrade when you can , adapters aren't a great idea for cards.

+1 this. The fact that your power supply isn't equipped with the 8 pin PCI-E power already means it's an older design not really intended to support newer cards. Try to upgrade sooner than later if you can; going to a current power supply, like a 600w Corsair or EVGA bronze unit should be a fairly inexpensive upgrade, about $60.

That's pretty much what I was figuring. I was looking at the voltage on the +12 rails and such...Best not to chance it and get an appropriate PSU. I'll wait.
