hello everyone.I have this cpu and i wolud like to buy a Thermalright SI 97(or si-97a) to mount on my pc.The problem is that i want this to work fanless(i would like 0 dB) but some people said that the cpu could get very hot withount any fan mounted on the radiator.
Is this true or not?
Even at 5x degrees celsius in full load i think that wolud be ok,but if it gets 60+ i am concerned. It's not a tragedy to mount a fan on this but i would preffere no to.
The case in this case is antec slk 3000b,with a good airlow overall
So...if anybody tested this combination pls tell me.

No, you will overheat and damage your CPU, no metter if it is 130nm or 180nm.
Especialy the 180nm Palomino is producing heat as hell, don't kill your CPU!

Don't have anything useful to say yet but I'm looking into reducing the noise levels in my old rig with an Athlon XP 2000+. I'm giving it to a friend who's got sensitive ears. So if I manage sth I'll let you know and if you come up with a good solution could you post it here please? Cheers

Well I've Soildred a Copper sheet(5 CM) thick underneath a Retail Aluminum heatsink and stuck it on a test Rig Pentium 3 System at my school> got the idea from Chemistry and it works liek a dream. It took down the cpu temp 11*Degrees and the Motherboard temp about 4*Degrees.

We're thinking about also doing the same thing for an tweeked P4 to run a Vista BETA test (we're upgrading to Vista from 2000 Proffesionals(omg i hate DELL they have their Prescott cores everywhere).
