AMD XP 2600 upgrade problem

May 21, 2004
Hello all, I tried doing a search for a fix but couldn't find anything.
I have just upgraded from a 2000xp to a 2800xp and I have set the FSB from 133 to 166 but it is only showing the proccesor at 2600xp@ 2.09 Mhz.
My biggest problem, however, is that when I try to run any program, such as Aquamark or 3d mark 2003, the computer will freeze up for about 15 seconds then reboot.
This is not a heat related issue as the temperature isn't going above 50C.
System specs:
AMD 2800 XP 333
<A HREF="" target="_new">MSI KT4V motherboard</A>
Radeon 9800 Pro 128
512 DDR 2700
Sound Blaster live Audigy Gamer
300 watt power supply
Plexwriter 24/10/40A burner
20 gig Maxtor hardrive

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
The computer was working great untill I changed the processor.
This is the error report I am getting
<A HREF="" target="_new"></A>

That's the right speed for the 2600. AMD uses Performance ratings and not absolute processor speed ratings so it gets kinda confusing.

The stability though may be your memory. Make sure when you went to the 166 FSB speed, you didn't overclock your RAM past it's capability. If you have only PC2100, you'll have to go into the BIOS and adjust the memory ratio.

700 Mflops in SETI!

Sounds like a PSU problem to me, used the PSU calculator and it seemed like it's barely enough. That a generic brand PSU?

The 2600+ with 256k cache, and the 2800+ with 512k cache, run the same speed, so if you have a 2800+ being reported as a 2600+, try updating BIOS.

Yes! It sounds like a power supply problem! Try updating BIOS first!
