hey there

ive recently just upgrading my PC and so on and have got a AMD XP2000 from my old Duron 750; im just wondering what are the best cooling options?!

Im looking to buy a new decent heatsink and fan, maybe along with some better case fans and so on.

At present, im just using the standard AMD Heatsink and Fan which came with the processor, along with a 80mm fan at the front and back, front one bringing air in and back one pumping hot air out. Im just using a standard midi tower, which only has a front and back case mounting, with a 300w PSU which is situated above the processor.

I did have a different fan but the heatsink was pretty big and it was causing problems and screwing up my internet connectivity, i think this was because it was rite next to a resistor/transistor, woteva it is, basically touching it. My mobo is Gigabyte GA-7VAXP by the way. I have no idea wot the current case fans are spinning at cos they are 4 pin connectors, the CPU fan is spinning at 5110 rpm and my present temperatures are System Temp 40c and CPU Temp 54c, the comp has been on for quite a while and ive been playing UT 2003.

Also, im wondering wot are the usual temperatures of this CPU?!
I heard something about, if u turn the CPU fan the other way it helps out sometimes?! i dunno?!

Ne help on some good cooling methods, if i need any, which are within a decent price and not too loud!

Ne help much appreciated,

Vantec Airflow,my choice for HSF.Also Antec or Vantec case fans are both good choices.I have 4 antec 80mm case fans with reostates for two and on/off switchs for the other two. This way i can regulate temps over different conditions, hot days, intense gaming etc. Also turning two off keeps things quiet when they are not needed.Have found on real hot days,100 degrees and up,taking side of case off and using a desk fan does the best job.

So whats wrong with the stock fan you are using right now. It works doesnt it???

Leave the CPU fan as it is... and your temperatures are fine, if essentially meaningless. If it runs, its ok. If it keeps freezing, you need to improve your cooling. Its as simple as that.

Regarding casefans, Anything is ok, it just depends on how much noise you are prepared to put up with.
Should you desire quiet casefans, consider pabst, vantec stealths or especially Panaflo's. They are very good.

[Rik_] I wonder how many people have made their own phasechange system?
[LHGPooBaa] I get phasechange whenever i eat a hot chillie

Your temps are fine, although strangely I get 38/47C (Idle/Load) temps on my 2000+, and thjats only using a crappy aluminium Coolermaster £10 HSF. Then again I do have two case fans both of which blow directly onto the heatsink.
