Like many AMD customers we are all waiting for the new zen motherboards and CPU's.

Ive heard that a motherboard replacement requires a full os reinstall ive only ever upgraded my gpu and the cpu mostly plug n play stuff

being the fact i have the win 10 download from upgradeing from win7 i dont have a install disk or a usb with the install files.

So i ask the question do i have to reinstall windows when i go from the fx6300 and my am3+ socket what is the danger of not reinstalling the os and how do I make a installed drive to a flash drive for the free digital version of win10

The program is called magic jelly bean, but since you need windows 7 installed first and then upgrade to windows 10 unless you are currently running windows 7, you will not be able to pull the product key.

You're best bet is to just plan on having to purchase a new copy of windows. The fact that you are going to be purchasing a motherboard though entitles you to be compliant with the OEM variety of windows vs the retail set. That will save you some $'s. That is unless microsoft has changed their OEM licensing again, like their privacy statements allowing them to spy on you with windows 10. (They've become some creepy stalkers) Best to be cautious of what OS you install, but would recommend an OEM copy of Windows if you are...
Hi,

I think you will need to wait, as Zed requires AM4 socket. So if you have anything less than that you can't upgrade only the CPU, you will have to change MB, RAM since Zen will support DDR 4 RAM's.

It is too early for all these details, things might change in the future.

As for the OS, dont think you will need to reinstall it as the change is Hardware and nothing to worry about. But to be safe in case some failure happened take a backup for the important data on the OS HD.

Regards,

K, couple things, there is no free digital windows 10. Next, if your windows was an oem install, then it's tied to the motherboard, you can call M$ and ask to transfer, but it's really up to them to allow it or not, I've heard stories both ways. Next, you can use your original install of windows from win 7 to the next gen of motherboards that come out for the Zen CPUs, but *BUT* there will be driver issues to the point where the install may not work, may not be able to boot fully into windows, may not run as advertised, may have conflicts, but yes, you can do it. With so many changed from AM3+ to AM4/AM4+ (I think those are the new ones) if you do anything more than browse the interwebs, you're gonna want to reinstall from scratch. If you've had your windows 10 installed for more than a month, your windows 7 license is no longer valid, it's now a windows 10 license. If you're within the first month of upgraded windows 10, and your windows 7 license is retail not OEM, then you can reinstall win 7 and upgrade to win 10, or, you can install win 10 from the start, just put your win 7 license in when it asks you for license #.

Getting new ram and such isn't my main worry it's the fact that I don't have my win7 activation code anymore it got lost in a move from house to house the disk I still have but no code. So I want to weigh the options on whether I should hang out with the am3+ chips until I can't run new games and 3D rendering programs like Maya. I've been told to go to intel but then I'd just have to go though the same issues it sounds minus the ram but as far as I saw I can get some ddr4 locally for like 70-80$ and it still be two 8gb cards

There are programs to get your win 7 code. I don't remember the names off hand, but I'm sure a google search will be helpful here, just search windows key program.

PS - If you are doing this for gaming, steam for linux has come a long way. Not to mention how user friendly it has become as well. Try a either fedora, or ubuntu "Live" images to see. They run from CD or USB without writing to your disk to preview the OS.

Best of luck.
