Does the amd show its clock speed as 2800 instead of 2.8 ? And can you tell me what a good operating temp is for a slightly overclocked Phenom II 720? Say 3.0 to 3.2 ?
 
That was exactly what i was asking. My mobo shows it as 2800 instead of 2.8 so i was a little confused. I upped my multiplier to 14.5 from 14 and it went from 2800 to 2956.??? and it confused me cuz i was looking for 2.9. Ran prime for 4hrs and it never went above 58c with stock cooler. Have Arctic 64 on the way. Thank you
 
If it shows 2800MHz than it equals 2.8GHz. Sometimes when upping the voltage it overclocks by .2 or something making the numbers all weird. What is your FSB. Because FSB X Miltiplier = Speed, in your case FSB x 14.5 = 2956 OR 2.956 GHz
 
Thank you. I am gonna up my multiplier more this week when my Arctic 64 gets here and see what that gets me. If unstable should i just up the cpu voltage a tick?
 
I've always read its a good idea to keep your cpu temp under 50 degrees and voltage under 1.5.

I'm currently running my 720 at 3.65GHz, 18x multiplyer, 1.48V. Idle temps are ~34degrees, load temps ~48 degrees.
 
Wow ! Thats awesome ! What cooler are you using ? I have the arctic 64 pro on the way. Should be here tomorrow. I'm at 3.0Ghz, 15x multiplier. No voltage increase. Running 34c idle 50c load.

up the multiplyer until its unstable, then up the voltage til its stable, repeat until you get to 1.5V. easy as pie.

I couldn't get it stable at 3.7 even with 1.55 volts. It's a voltage problem, not a temp problem. They don't run too hot, which is nice.
 
I will try tomorrow as soon as i get my new cooler installed. I got the arctic cooling mx-2 compound. Says there is no break in period. I will let you know tomorrow. Thank you for the input. I love this website!!!:)
 
No, I don't think it's posisble anymore. Seems like it was just the early bios versions for a select few mobos that even had the option to, and then you had to get lucky for it to activate. There isn't an option to activate it in my BIOS (Gigabyte U4P or something)
 

If you hit CTRL&F1 in the first bios screen ACC will be under M.I.T. I turned mine on auto and it wouldnt boot so i think my core is bad.
 
Cor e is not bad more than likely it was deffinitely a bios revision that made it not work My 7750 would unlock on my previous bios but when I upgrade it locked permanently. so I got a 940 PII. I have a gigabyte ma790x-ud4p on bios F5e F2 worked fine for unlocking
 

So you unlocked the fourth core! Outstanding! Thats a 200 dollar cpu for for 130 bucks. I have the Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H with the F1 bios. Gigs website says there is an F2 bios for it but i am scared to death to flash it. I have never done it.
 
I have the gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 and i used the programs that came on the disk to flash the bios from the desktop, worked amazingly. Just make sure you have a reliable power connection (don't do this in a lightning storm), read everything on the screen to make sure u do it right, and it will be fine!

Idont think this board is going to work for the unlocking part. BUT the "Criple Core" is still a decent processor though. What we need is a reverse engineer good enough to write a bios that would enable use of the 7750 and the 720 as Quads.

I meant My 720. I did try this very thing With the 7750+ BE. I had no luck doing this. I figure it is possible some way some how.
 

are u sure or is that what cpuz says...be very careful.
 


Since the max temperature its rated at is 72 degrees or something, keeping your temp under 50 allows for a lot of error in the programs, sometimesup to 10 degrees, and still be safwly under the cap.
 

So i ran Prime all night and Temp1 said 42c Temp 2 said 56c and Temp 3 said 62c . Core was at 60c. Thats what Speedfan said anyway. Doeas that sound O.K. ? You know i did notice some thermal compound oooooze out the side when i clamped my new HSF down. Does that mean i used too much? I have no problem taking it off and doing it again. I am using MX-2. Should i really only use the size of a grain of rice?
 


WAY too high, you don't want it over 50 degrees at full load. You should apply as little thermal compound as possible, sounds like you've applied WAY too much which makes your heatsink useless. More than a grain of rice, but not too much more. There are a number of articles about applying thermal compound around, I suggest you read a few and redo it.
 

Thank you. I m doing that as we speak. I have found that there are alot of different opinions out there. I have seen dime size all the way down to a thin line in the middle of the cpu. I am definitely going to do it over today. The Arctic 64 Pro sure does go in tough. I thought i was going to break it !!! Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again. :)
 


Yup, every review has a different recommended way of doing it. I found an X provided the best coverage using Arctic silver 5
