AMD's Ryzen 7040U series chips and Z1 APUs for handheld gaming seem very similar on paper, but the company says a lot of validation has done to change them up for Asus' upcoming handheld.

Stands to reason they are working with a single chip design: that's their main philosophy, try to make do with as few distinct elements as possible, even if it means a minimum of (currently) eight cores per chip(let).

It will be interesting to see if they can negotiate their big console customers out of proprietary hardware designs and making do with customizations only on off-chip parts.
