Hi I got this american megatrends fan error screen for a long time but I can press f1 to continue booting my computer without any problem. The fan is still spinning normally.

But today it seems to got worse. When i pressed f1 to continue, it brings me to a empty screen and showing 'reboot and insert boot device'. I am able to bypass this one to boot normally by going into BIOS and choose any exit option without doing any changes at all so it is kind of strange.

My computer booted normally but it got slower at certain times and frequent freezes when I open up a certain program so the problem didn't go away but gotten worse.

I checked my fan speed in BIOS which shows N/A. The cores temperature is at low around 50 and at max 65-73 degrees. I am using acer which there's no way I can modify the fan's speed. Check my hard disk for error but nothing.

What's could be the problem here? My computer used to have bad ram problems, not sure if the rams are causing it. And can system reset fix this one? if not, what are the solutions?

Thanks

Solution
Your CPU fan speed sensor has failed. That is why the speed is N/A in the BIOS. You should get a new CPU cooler or fan. You could also have a weak CMOS battery which is causing your boot order to get "forgotten". I am guessing this is a fairly old computer, so a replacement battery might be appropriate.

Ah i see, so it is a hardware issue.. I really can't fix it by resetting my computer back to factory state?

My desktop is 5 years old, do you think I should buy those parts or I should just bought a new computer instead?

thanks

The things I listed are $10 if you can get a new fan. $35 if you have to get a new cooler. That is A LOT less than a replacement. But a 5 year old PC is due for replacement. Only you can judge if $500 - $1000 is worthwhile.

I see, thanks.

I have new development here. I cleaned my cpu fan and right now It got stuck at 'Reboot and insert boot device', I have no way to bypass it now. My cpu fan also stopped moving.

Does this means the fan is broken or the cooler is? How to tell exactly?

"Reboot and insert boot device" says your motherboard can't read your disk drive. I don't think that is related to the CPU fan. I don't know what you messed up when you were working inside your PC case. Check the disk power and data cables.
