An easy way to enlarge the screw hole size on the case?

I complete a build a while back with the Corsair 500r white case. About the only issue I ran into with the case was the fan mounts on top. The case specifications states you can mount 2 x 140mm case fans on the top, unfortunately the idiot who designed the case decided to make the holes for the screws on the 140's about half the size in diameter. So I have large screws that fit through the holes of the fans, but not the case. Do I have to self tap the screws through? Or drill through the holes to widen them, then fit the screws. Or neither? suggestions?

You could zip tie them, might not be the most sleek look but would work. Other than that grab your drill and make the holes bigger.

Either larger screw holes, or smaller screws and washers.
