Hello everyone,

It been a few months since I installed my new video card, MSI GTX 970 4G. Ever since then, my boot up started acting weird. Normally when the system is booting up, I could hear a single beep sounding then the windows starts loading up. But this time around, it's taking much longer and I could hear 4 deeps. Not constantly but there's like 25-26 seconds inbetween each beep.

At first, I didn't pay much attention to it since it wasn't causing me any problem, the system loads normally afterwards. The only difference is that it's taking much longer to load. But I didn't realize that there was much more to this issue than just delay.

Today, I decided to format my PC. I inserted my Windows CD and restarted my PC. After the 4 beeps passed (the BIOS screen) it was time for it to detect the bootable cd, but the screen went blank I couldn't do anything.

This is what I mean by the BIOS screen:

I removed my CD, restart, and tried to enter the BIOS setup.. Surprisingly with the same results. I clicked DEL repeatdly with no use, I tried entering the Boot menu.. Pressing ESC.. But nothing.

At this rate, it'd be problematic if I can't format and reinstall my windows in case of an emergency. So I'd be grateful if anyone could inspire me on how to fix this issue.

Thanks in advance

MB: Gigabyte GA-H77-D3H
RAM: G.Skill Ares 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
VGA: MSI GTX 970 4GB GDDR5

EDIT: So I messed around a little bit more. I tried to reset my motherboard with the video card intact but that didn't seem to have an effect. But when I did remove the video card and used the on-board VGA instead, it seemed to have worked and even the beeps are gone (Only a single normal beep at the start). I could probably format my PC this way and then just reinstall my video card when all that is done.
But still, the issue where I can't access the BIOS settings and the unusual beeps haven't been solved yet.

Press the del key and disable the logo. A single beep is good its telling you its OK. if its more than 1 beep thats when you worry

So the videocard you installed maybe faulty, if it was fine when you removed it

Make sure the bootdisk is the hdd. If its on anything else it can add an extra 20-30 secs to the boot time

It's clear that this issue only occurs after installing my GTX 970, since I tried using a different old Sapphire GPU, it's more certain now.

When I used my Sapphire GPU I entered the BIOS settings and the boot priority was already set to my HDD. Considering there's 2 options. One is the HDD and the other is my CDROM - which I disabled completely.. But that didn't help with anything.

Alright, finally. I got this fixed!
So to begin with, the beeps

My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc (AMI), and the 4 beeps mean: "Real Time Clock malfunction"
I thought, because of that, it had something to do with my battery. But no, it was due to the fact that my BIOS is not up do date. So all I had to do is update my BIOS.

If anyone has encountered an issue like this.. After installing a new video card you get 4 beeps at the bios startup screen and you can't access the BIOS settings or boot new operation system, then all you have to do is update your BIOS.

I'm using a Gigabyte MB so I had to go to their website, look for my MB model, and download the latest BIOS driver. Also, along with that, I downloaded the @BIOS utility which allows you to update your BIOS with the driver files you downloaded without having to do a Q-Flash.
