AnandTech: Nehalem Xeon SAP Results explained

Splendid
well that was nothing but doom and gloom for amd... :/

how important is that SAP test after all? does it like reflect real world usage on servers or is it just some pure theoreticall benchmark

It's a database benchmark so it should be fairly relevant for database-type servers.

What I got out of the article is that Intel's 3 simple + 1 complex instruction decoders, plus better OoO execution, and other enhancements makes Intel's integer execution greatly superior to AMD's, plus Nehalem is using improved SMT which Shanghai lacks. As the article stated, business apps typically run a range of 0.2 to 0.6 instructions per clock, which leaves a lot of clock room for a 2nd thread to be executed without slowing down the first thread significantly.
