Android 7.1 (ASUS Nexus Player) has intermittent internet issues

Hi all,

Random problem..... for the last few months I've been having occasional issues with the internet on my Nexus Player. I'll see the Wifi/Network symbol with an explamation point in the top right of the screen - this happens regardless of whether I'm connected via Wifi.

I don't recall how I found the temporary solution I've been using, but it works for a few days.
Switch IP from DHCP to Static and then return to DHCP. As soon as that's done, everything works as intended.

While this "works", it's far from ideal. No other device on the network, wifi or ethernet has any problems whatsoever - including my Desktop S7 Edge, Samsung Tab E (all Wifi) or nVidia Shield (ethernet)..

Any suggestions as to a more permanent solution? Or why this occurs to begin with?

There doesn't appear to be any underlying network issues, nor would the problem appear to be with Android (given the other devices have no issues). Considering a reset of the Nexus Player to see if that'll solve this issue..... but hoping there's an easier option.

DHCP assigns an IP address as needed. I think what might be happening, is that some devices periodically initiate a ping, for lack of a better term, that lets the DHCP server know that it (the device) is still alive and needs the IP address. If the DHCP server doesn't get this 'keep alive' ping, it marks the address as not in service. Switching from DHCP yo static and back to DHCP effectively requests a new IP address. Next time, make a note of the assigned IP address, wait until it loses connection, do the DHCP/Static/DHCP switch, and see if the same IP address is assigned.
The only thing that sounds wrong could be conflicting IP address, maybe try setting a static IP that is off from your other IPs on your network. If that doesn't work, the reset sounds like a plan to see if that fixes it.

Both good points, and I'll check 'em out in at lunch.

As for the "more devices than IP addresses" point...... If that were the case, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect to see the issue 'jump around' between less used devices? Not saying it's not the case but, for example, my tablet can lay dormant (and off) for weeks, and it never has an issue when I turn it on. The NP is used near daily. I just would've expected lesser used devices to suffer more.
