Why are all touchscreen head units so expensive? We can all just run out and pick up a cheap tablet for $99 and glue it to the dash. Why can't they build a decent $400 touchscreen head unit?

They definitely have plenty of cheap ones available. I just bought and installed a $250 Pioneer head unit for $250. It's great and was a really easy install. I won't bother listing all the crap it does, but the model number is avh-x2700bs. It talks to my phone just fine and has everything I want, and nothing I don't.

So, they're available. You just haven't been looking.
