We have two properties next to each other as boutique hotel, with two very similar adsl connections, the gateways are from the internet provider and somewhat restricted in setup.:

West:

Thomson Technicolor Gateway TG784n v3, SW release 10.2.1.L, working as DHCP. A switch, then 4 APs of various makes. Android 8.0.0 connects fine as do others, no problems noted.

East:

Thomson Technicolor Gateway TG784n, SW release 10.2.1.L, working as DHCP. 3 APs connected to the Gateway

Android has problems, connects to AP, get valid IP, can see admin interface on Router (and even log in), but no internet. Mac OS (10.13.5), Windows phone and _some_ iOS connect fine.

Even when I log in to the Gateway, the device is not listed! Any clue what is happening?

We got the Gateway substituted by the company and all works (for) now. I think it technically belongs to them, they have to provide us with working gear. The technician had not heard about this before (he seemed quite good), but as one of the ethernet ports were gone too there were no problems substituting.
Not sure, but we have two different makes of APs giving the same problem on the East NW.

What really puzzles me is that I can log in to the Admin interface on the gateway, without the device showing up. That is beyond my logic.

if its anything like unifi APs the management interface could just be an application that scans the network for the devices. Likely whatever is causing them to not be visible to the central admin page is also causing your problems. Have you ruled out IP conflicts? Can you confirm these devices have not lost their IP settings?

The IP my phone gets from Gateway through the AP, 192.168.1.112, (remember, DHCP is in the Gateway) is valid, in the range and not assigned to other devices listed.

What is strange is that 1) it seems only to affect Android (iOS; MacOS, Kindle, Windows Phone all OK) and 2) on the neighbouring network with extremely similar setup both mine and other Androids work fine (and get different IP)

Are you using /24 subnet mask? if your using higher than /24 and you get a lot of traffic through the hotel with a long dhcp lease time. you might run out of ip addresses.

make sure none of the statics, eg access point web admin pages, use the gateway ip address or any other conflicting one.

Clearly there is some going on with your Thompson East. I bet if you were to switch the 2 units (east and west) the problem would follow the dodgy gateway.
Can it be fixed? A factory reset might help, but make sure you make notes on your setup because you will have to reconfigure it. If you got the gateway from your ISP and they have a generous replacement policy, then I would consider that route.
