Good morning folks,

over the past week I noticed an issue with my PC's Wifi connection, so this morning I worked the settings of me router to be hidden and renamed the router as well. Understandably it broke the connection with me PC and mobile.

My computer (using Win10) displayed a 'hidden network` in the options, which is me router. I added the name and SSID and it connected. Switching over to me mobile.... this is the matter at hand.

First, there is no 'hidden network' from which to choose. Second, I sat next to the router and three times I tried to add a network into the mobile, but it shows the network does not exist.

It's a Hauwei P20 running Android.

Any ideas on how to find a hidden network in an Android mobile?

Thanks in advance and have a nice start to the week.

Solution
Does the name have some complicated usage of special letters or symbols? Can you maybe try to change it to something else/simpler?

What is the model of the router and what kind of encryption are you using for the password?
Hidden networks wont show up on Android like they do in win 10. Not on emui at least.

You have to go into wifi-settings, and if i remember correctly scroll down past all the available networks and choose add network. Then type inn the SSID name and choose the right password encryption. Not sure if SSID name is case sensitive, but wont hurt to type in the exact name used.

@Spaceghaze , thanks for the reply. I did a poor job this morning of detailing my 'second' try. That's what I attempted to do. I sat next to the router and attempted several times to 'add a network'. Each time the result shows the network does not exist. I am typing it as it is on me PC. Case sensitive and with the correct encryption.

I turned the router off and on as well as restarted me mobile. Nothing is working and I don't wish to 'unhide' me router. The early issues I was having, have disappeared.

HIding the SSID is actually a violation of the RFC's and any device that fully conforms (such as your phone) to the RFC's will not detect or connect to hidden SSID's. If you want the phone to connect then you have no choice but to unhide your SSID.

As a side note, hiding the SSID is in no way, shape, or form improving security as all devices broadcast the SSID as they try to connect, thus making it trivial to locate a so called 'hidden' network. Unhide the SSID and use proper security on your router.

That can not be applicable everywhere right? I had a p20 pro and it never had this issue.

All devices that fully adhere to the RFC's will refuse to connect to hidden networks as they will not see them. Not all manufacturers choose to follow the RFC's. And, as Google improves Android, they more and more choose to follow all appropriate standards.
