So im going on a road trip in a week and i have a big music library on my desktop, (about 15 gigs, 2500 songs) but my android phone is only 8 gigs so i cant store all my music on it. I want to be able to play my music from my desktop on my phone. I know theres a way to file share from my pc to phone while my phone has internet connection. If someone could point me in the right direction for the apps and programs to make this work that would be great. All help is appreciated. Thanks for reading.

if you want to share a folder using SMB shares (file sharing with windows) you might want to turn off password protected sharing and install a file manager on your android device, something like ES File Explorer or Astro File Manager.

Or use media streaming, this is packaged in windows 7 too, and uses Windows media player. once your music is in WMP library, in the top left there is an option for streaming, select turn on media streaming, then you just need to find a media player for your android device that supports streaming, ive heard BubbleUPnP being mentioned before.

I'm unsure if this is LAN only or not, can you clarify?

A MUCH easier way is to get a couple of MicroSD cards. Copy your 15GB to that.

Yes, you can do it through the internet, but that involves significant risks. You're opening up your PC to the outside world.

Since you are going for a roadtrip , the method suggested above is not feasible. Better to search the songs on sites like soundcloud or maybe upload them to drive.

The above method requires a connection to your PC via LAN/Wifi , which is not possible.

If you dont have an SD Card slot, I think the best way to get around having to setup networks or use the internet would be to use an OTG cable and flash drive, I had to do this with my old MOTO G, as it only had 8gb internal and no SD card slot. But this all depends on your android device.

This is exactly what i needed. Thank you everyone else for your answers.
