Android TV is basically a tablet?

Hi, I recently bought an Android Box from amazon (Link) thinking it would be like any other box e.g Amazon Stick, Roku etc.. But it's basically a tablet, downloads tablet apps with a tablet interface, it's UI isn't designed for TV. Is there a way to change this? With a launcher for some kind? or have I just misread a few things and that's just how it is?

I don't mind it really but a remote comes with it and it's pretty much pointless since you need a keyboard and trackpad to use any of the features. Any help would be great, thanks!

Depends exactly what you want to do with it? I had a similar box for a while. You can operate Kodi pretty well with a basic remote (likely the one that was included) but if you want to use it for much else a keyboard/mouse (or the little all in one keyboard with trackpad) is pretty much the only way to do it. To configure Kodi, a keyboard is a necessity but for simply using it, a control works fine...
