Animals I've never seen...

I was talking to this guy in Molag Mar who seems to be an expert on the
local fauna, and he mentionned some animals I've never seen in all my 48
levels. They're all variations on the standard ones, supposedly, though
I've yet to encounter any.

King Mudcrab
Mudcrab Titan
Blind Slaughterfish
Electric Slaughterfish
Cave Rat
Rust Rat
Rogue Nix-Hound

Now, I know I've seen Rats in caves, but I think they're just called "Rats"
like anywhere else, and there doesn't seem to be any difference between
them, though this does bring up the possibility that maybe these special
type creatures actually do look the same as their mundane counterparts when
you meet them, and even display the same name. However, I think I'd notice
if I were receiving lightning damage from a Slaughterfish, (which is what
I'd assume the Electric variety would do) and that's something I've never
seen. Are these creatures actually in the game? If so, they must be
incredibly rare or limited only to a few isolated locations, because I've
been just about everywhere by now, barring a few caves and such I may have
missed. I did at one time come across a Dreugh Warrior (or maybe Dreugh
Champion? I forget), which was noticeably stronger than his average
friends. It stood out because I've only seen one, though he wasn't much
harder to kill than a normal Dreugh. (Then again, at my level, pretty much
everything is easy to kill.) I also at one point found some dead Scribs
that had a special name which I've forgotten. Never seen live ones though,
and this was also a once-only event. (Also the only time I've ever seen
Scribs in a Dwemer ruin.)

Well, I've seen Cave Rats. They are rare. Right now I can't recall
where. Perhaps, like Telvani Sewer Rats, they are special to a quest
or limited area.

The King Mudcrab might be "the" Mudcrab that buys armor and stuff in
the Arcadian Isles.

I have also seen a few other special animals (old bluefin near Ald
Velothi--a Redoran quest and those giant slaughterfish at the bottom of
Lake Nabia). So, these others could be part of the regular game. Or,
they could be mods.

Are you running mods that might have added these.

Cave Rats

This quest can kick off one of two ways. You can either pick up the
quest from Eydis or from the client (Drarayne Thelas). It works either
way and you get paid the same (100 gold).

Drarayne Thelas' house is right at the end of the center bridge. She has
an infestation of Cave Rats (bigger, tougher versions of the common
Rat). There is one rat in the bedroom of the house and two more in the
upstairs storage area. You must kill all three. Drarayne will give you
the key to the storage area, but you can pick the lock as long as there
are no guards nearby (costs a few golds if you're caught).

The rats have 23 HP and do 1-10 damage with 50% combat skills (common
rat has 23 HP and does 1-2 damage with 30% combat skills).

After the rats are dead, collect your fee from Drarayne and report back
to Eydis to finish up.

(I still remembered this guest for the Fighters Guild in Balmora <g>)

Ah. Maybe I did see these then. It's been so long since I did that quest I
don't remember. Kind of odd though that the one time you ever see Cave Rats
in the game, they're not in a cave. Still don't think I've seen any of the
others, though.

You won't see a king mudcrab unless you go to Ald Rhun - you see the big
crablike structure that the redoean council manors reside in?
there ya go

King crabs like Skar are extinct :)

Cave Rats are see on the first Fighter Guild quest. Those are the big
rats in the woman's upstairs storage room.

Or more likely, the rest must simply not exist, since I'm not running any
mods. Either Bethesda wrote that guy's dialog early and then removed
certain creatures from the game before release, or the guy is just talking
bullshit. He does also make mention of many creatures which DO exist,
though. If you want to see for yourself, go downstairs in St. Veloth's
Hostel in Molag Mar and look a Nord named Gudling the Rascal. Ask him about
"my trade", and he'll happily tell you more than you ever wanted to know
about kagoutis and shalks.
