Hi all,
I have Just finished uploading the latest version of my Gtk2 based
runner, Rogue. Rogue can run AGT, AGX, Adrift3, Adrift4, Tads2 and
Tads3 games. Rogue uses Scare, Agility, and Tads sources to interpret
the games.
I have just finished uploading Rogue to ifarchive, so presumably it
will be available at either
ftp://ftp.ifarchive.org/incoming/
or
ftp://ifarchive.org/if-archive/unprocessed/
Features:
Rogue's scrollback buffer is integrated in the main screen, like in
Filfre. Only limit to the amount of text you can store is your pc
memory, Rogue makes no attempt to be conservative with memory.
You can cut and paste, etc with standard linux method. Select the
text and paste with the middle mouse button.
One feature is potentially very useful. Rogue has a notes window
alongside the main text display window. When you are playing a game
and something strikes you, you can copy and paste the text from
the gameplay screen to the notes screen, or you may make your own
notes. This way, when you get stuck somewhere, you can review the
notes and maybe find some way out. Notes are automatically saved
and loaded, so you need not worry about them.
Another slightly unusual feature is that you can view the text
files included with the game by either using the toolbar buttons
or by pressing the shortcut key CTRL-I. This will pop up the game
released information. Sometimes Rogue can get it wrong. As a
workaround, there is a menu option to load any text file you want.
It is handy when you want to see authors notes before starting the
game, but you are running Rogue from a different directory. Also
handy when you want to consult a walkthrough.
Rogue supports graphics with Adrift. The documentation on how to
handle media in Tads is, unfortunately, non existent. Maybe some
release in future will support graphics with Tads.
It is possible to debug Adrift games in Rogue, via the Scare
debugger. Rogue provides a separate debugger window, but debugging
can also be done in the main window itself.
You can also choose your own fonts, font color, and background
colors (these are all standard features). There are also buttons on
the toolbar which will allow you to increase/decrease the size of
the font one point at a time.
If Rogue is hogging too much memory, you can use the clear button
in the toolbar to clear the buffer. Rogue also remembers the
verbosity status, but this is useful only with Scare, since it is
the only interpreter that provides the API to set such a feature.
Known Bugs:
The Logging button on the toolbar and the button on the main menu
can get out of sync, one suggesting the logging is on, while the
other saying it is off. But this will not affect gameplay.
Some Adrift games may crash rogue, this is because Scare cannot
handle them well.
Adrift games using the battle system may not run properly on
Rogue, since Scare cannot handle the battle system.
Rogue save games for Adrift version 3 games are not compatible with
the adrift runner 3.9's save games. However, Adrift v4 save games
are compatible. Again, a Scare issue.
That's about the size of it, folks.
Hope you enjoy playing with it!
