Hi All,

Roughly 7-8 months ago I tried getting Google Fiber. I ended up going back to Xfinity and getting the higher speed internet with them instead. After connecting any computer or device to the Xfinity router with the correct credentials, my TCP/IP keeps trying to go back to the Google Fiber homepage. I now have to manually set my router, IPv4 address, and subnet to the Xfinity information. This is super annoying having to do this every time for every device. I have also scanned my Mac with Bitdefender and Malware Bytes (free version) and got nothing back. Can someone please help me?

What modem do you have? Which Xfinity router? Or do you have a combined modem/router?

Connectivity being:

ISP (Xfinity) === (Coax)===> Modem [LAN port] ---- Ethernet cable ---> [WAN port] Router [LAN ports] --- Ethernet ---> wired devices and ~~~ Wireless ~~~> wireless devices.

Feel free to edit and correct my line diagram as necessary.

Do you have any Windows devices in the network? If so, run "ipconfig /all"(without quotes) via the Command Prompt and post the results.

Hi Ralston18,

It is an Xfinity combo router and modem. It is newer, tall, white, and used for fiber connections.

Forgive me, but I don't know all the terms. My diagram is below.

Modem/router -- coax in wall (I'm guessing all ethernet goes through here)

All devices connect to WIFI connection from this modem/router connection in living room.

I have one Windows device that is connected to the WIFI, but it is a work computer and I cannot do what you need. I'm not trying to be rude, but I could get in some trouble showing anything on their machine.

Anything on my MacBook I am happy to show.

Thanks,

John

I am not familiar with the IP config settings for a MacBook.

However any network device should have only one network adapter enabled either wired or wireless not both at the same time.

In your environment I would expect to see only wireless network adapters enabled with regards to Mac devices and Windows devices.

Will need to defer to Mac Users with regards to what is and is not configurable in that respect.

= = = =

I did edit out two instances of personal information the appeared in your ipconfig results.

No problem with not being able to provide the Windows result from a work computer. Not an unusual situation.

But you can check that the work computer does not have two network adapters enabled or perhaps duplicating an IP address.

Connectivity:

ISP (Xfinity) === fiber ===> [Converter (optic to coax)] --- coax cable ---->Wall outlet ----- coax ----> Modem/Router ~~~ Wireless ~~~> wireless devices.

The Converter should be mounted close to where the fiber run comes into your home. Likely mounted on the outside - see if you can find it.

On the modem router is there an admin login or password information printed on the label? Or a model number of some sort. Not asking for that information just need to know if it is there. Hopefully the admin login and password have been changed by you to values only you know.

It could be that you need admin rights to reconfigure the modem/router to not use/default to Google Fiber.

The configuration setting may be in your browser as well.

Google Fiber app could be involved:

Hi Ralston18, thank you for your help. I have changed the router/modem name and password. The model is on a sticker on the bottom of the router/modem.

Would I need to make sure the Google Fiber app is uninstalled? It shouldn't be on my machine.
