Annoying noise XFX 7870

Hi all, recently bought a new system.

NZXT Source 210 Elite Gaming Case + 600W Corsair PSU [£29.21]
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H, Intel Z77 Chipset [£66.77]
Intel Core i5 3570K, Ivy Bridge, 3.4GHz, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, (4.4ghz) 6MB Cache
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance - 1600MHz
2GB XFX Radeon HD 7870 DD

I play on 1280x1024 atm on a old monitor and I am using one of them vga to dvi converters for the card to work.
I notice when I am playing graphic intensed games like Borderlands 2, gw2 crysis.
The card makes a kinda of a high pitched noise when it is under load. it is very annoying.
When I play games like fallout new vegas which dont use that much gpu power it doesnt make any noise?

I checked CCC and checked the readings, max temp is around 50-60, so the temp is ok,

should I alter the manual fan control setting, thought it was my fans just spinning like crazy.

any input would help

Sounds like you have a case of coil squeal, it is annoying and can occur at odd times (my 6950 sounds like someone boiling a live pig when playing DOOM-yes the original! but is utterly silent under Metro 2033).
The card is fine and will not, and is not, suffering damage but if it is causing a problem to you, then I'd contact customer services and see about a warranty replacement.

yeah thats exactly how it sounds!.
I'll keep it for now, as long as the card is ok that is all that matters.

TWO 7870's at 1280x1024?? What is the point? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard on this forum.

The sound your hearing is probably your power supply. Remove one of your video cards (you don't need it anyways) and see if the sound goes away.

Well even a single card is WAAAY overkill for that little monitor. I mean it's meant for 1920x1080 and higher.

Seriously, get yourself a nice 22-24" LED LCD. There's no greater satisfaction than a new monitor, trust me, you'll drool all over yourself when you first set it up.

It'll be the best $120 you ever spent.

Yeah was looking for to buy a monitor in this month or so.

Ok I found what the noise was...
Its coming from my PSU (GS600 Corsair).
I never got this noise from the onboard graphics?
I get it whenever the 7870 is playing graphically intensed game?.
Noticed also the bottom fan of psu doesnt spin.
Only spins for 2 seconds when you boot the pc. then stop. =/
I know the psu has a good 12 rail and even a 500w could run my pc

I figured it was the psu.

The fan failed and it's overheating I'm sure. You'll need to contact Corsair for a replacement.

Ah thats lame. Gfx and cpu run cool temps, ill contact them after work I guess or just carry on playing with a noisy psu

I wouldn't recommend that. It's overheating and the components will eventually fail. This can result in smoke/fire and/or damage to your other components.

Hi Qasim and others with the same problem,

I recently bought a new pc similar to Qasims' one:
Intel Core i5 3570K, Ivy Bridge, 3.4GHz, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, (3.8ghz) 6MB Cache
Zalman U9 Mid Case
Corsair CX750M PSU (€ 94.90)
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3p
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3 - 1600MHz
2GB XFX Radeon HD 7870 DD Black Edition

So far, i had the same boiling pig noise when my graphics card was demanding greater amounts of power from the psu when running games
(e.g. Oblivion, Bf3, Skyrim, SC2,..). So is started troubleshooting between the gfx card and psu, turned out the noise was coming from the PSU (I work on a Samsung 24" if that matters).
I opened the psu case to stop the fan, but the sound continued. So far i am planning to rma that thing.

If anyone has another suggestion please shoot.
