So after sifting through "Can my comp run bf3 on ultra," etc. threads for a couple hours I've decided to make my own... I don't need to run it on ultra, but high settings would be preferred obviously. I play other games but BF3 will be the most demanding.

Anyway, here we go:

Approximate Purchase Date: hopefully before bf3 comes out... (10/25 I think)

Budget Range: ~700 or less... anything under or around 650 is the best though

System Usage: gaming

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com but anything is okay if it's cheaper/trusted

Country of Origin: U.S.

Parts Preferences: I'm leaning towards AMD for the obvious difference in price

Overclocking: doubtful

SLI or Crossfire: maybe down the road

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: This is my first build

Total price: $635

Originally I had picked out the AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor + HIS IceQ X Turbo H695QNT2G2M Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity combo for a savings of $16

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.716895

but after reading more I thought that the savings of going with the AMD 955 and 560ti would probably outweigh the loss of performance. (The 955 and 560ti is about $35 cheaper total than the 970 and hd 6950, and I've read that the 560ti is pretty much the same as the hd 6950.) Is that price difference worth it or will I regret it? How important is that extra 1gb with the hd 6950?

Also, I don't know if that motherboard will disappoint me... I probably won't be overclocking, but what do you guys think? It has pretty good reviews and I'm happy with the price right now, but I might be willing to spend more on a motherboard if I can be convinced to do so.

Thanks for any help, advice, criticism.

Best Build by Screwy Girl. Great case too!

I'll agree with the i5 2400 + GTX560Ti giving better performance. Since we are about saving some money as well, get just 4GB of RAM.

Also get the Earthwatts 650W for just $50 (even cheaper on Amazon).

If you can stretch the budget towards $700, check the $800 build in my sig (includes OS).

Well I got an i5 2400 + 560ti build with the Earthwatts 650W down to $689... ScrewySqrls build with a cheaper HD/DVD burner. Will the Earthwatts 650W be enough for 560ti SLI if I ever want to do that?

I'm still debating an AMD build though, especially if the AMD quad core prices go down with the release of the bulldozers... does anyone have any idea if that will happen?

And I'll definitely be getting 8 gb of ram, ervinelim... About $5 more expensive than 4gb right now!

Thanks for all the help.

In 5 days, we will see lol It's out by Sept. 19. I dunno but I would think that it would not drop like crazy but about 5-20 percent but realistically 5-10%

Okay so I think I've got it narrowed down to this now:

CPU+MOBO combo $200
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz + MSI 970A-G45 AM3+ AMD 970
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.693504

RAM $50
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311

GPU $245
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127565

HD $40
Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767

CASE $40
HEC Blitz Black Steel Edition ATX Mid Tower Computer Chassis Gaming Case w/ Front Blue LED 120mm Fan & Top 120mm Fan
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121096

Rosewill RFA-120-K 120mm Case Fan $6
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200048

PSU $70
Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

DVD Burner $18

= $668

Now I'll be really lucky if the price goes down for the AMD cpus while the 955 is still in that combo deal... but for some reason I doubt that will happen. Actually I'll be lucky if any of these prices stay the same because I'm pretty satisfied with the build now but won't be ordering for another week or two.

Thanks for all the help... any comments on this potentially final build are appreciated!

I was thinking of doing a similar build im just not sure on the gpu....the nvidia is tempting with batman for free, but I've also heard good things on the 6950. Any input would be appreciated.

Yea I've been debating 560ti vs 6950 for a while. I've read that review but on newegg almost all of the 560tis are cheaper than the 6950s before rebate, and most of the 560tis have pretty big rebates + free batman while the 6950s have pretty small rebates. Still trying to decide.
