Another graphics problem

When I am trying to knock out the camoudile, at least 3 out of ten attempts
my cursor (hand) ends up in the middle of the screen and every so slowly
disappears. The game completely locks up and I have to press ctrl-alt-del &
end Myst IV -> and then I restart. Have any of you found this to be the case
? It occurs whether or not I use the game configurator.

P4 2.8 GHz
1.5 G ram
Radeon 9600
Tons of disk space

Any ideas?
