Another new budgetbuild! (Gaming)

Okay so this weekend I'll be ordering my new parts, and was wondering what you guys thought about it! It's what I'd call a mid-level budget gaming build...

- Intel Core i5-2500K
- Biostar TZ68+
- G.Skill Ripjaws X 8gb DDR3 1600
- Corsair H60 liquid cooler
- EVGA SC GTX 560 Ti
- Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 6.0gb/s
- Corsair TX650 V2
- Rosewill ARMOR gaming mid tower

* Some overclocking may occur 😉

A few items bought through local store promotions; the rest from the egg... it brings my total to just under $850 😉 I planned to keep it right around/under six hundred bucks for the computer only (w/o gpu) and managed to do so. I have a spare GTX 550 Ti that I can even sell off to save even moarrr moneys!

So... any thoughts, concerns, dilemmas, situations, yadiyadiyahs?

Nice overall build, however 650w is a tad "overkill". You could use a 500w PSU with a 560Ti build so you could save yourself a little there.

Also BIOSTAR motherboard, eh not the best to be honest. Id recommend looking at something from Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI, ASRock.

Very nice build. A few tweaks maybe, but nothing to worry about.

Get a decent air cooler unless you want to push it 4.8+. Could save you a bit of money. Try a CM Hyper 212+ for just $25 on Amazon.

The Biostar board is actually pretty decent, and overclocks great. I myself recommend it on my $800 build. Check out this review.

If you have a spare GTX550Ti lying a round, by all means sell it and get a GTX570 instead. Worth the money.

The TX650 is great, but also expensive. You can find really good certified 550-650W PSU's for around $40 less.

Ok, i dont know you but if this is for gaming, i would take out the watercooling system and add that 70 bucks for a better gpu.

Your case already provides you Optimal Cooling. And if you Think you need More you could upgrade later, Corsair h60 Seems like an overkill for the gtx 560 ti, This cards the ti are the best for sli , why? because they are quiet, run cool and have great performance. Iam not a pro, but if this is a gaming pc, you get the best Single gpu you can pay and later go sli, thats were you get watercooling, besides from gtx 550 ti to a gtx 560ti you will see only little difference, now, Jumping from your actual card to gtx 570 will make your eyes bleed of happyness for money well spend.

Hope you choose to forget the watercooling system for now, and get the gtx 570.

The OP is looking to buy a single GTX 560Ti i believe, not SLI.

The BioStar motherboard listed doesn't support SLI cards, only Crossfire.

The Corsair H60 is a CPU cooler, nothing to do with GPU cooling...But yes a cheaper air-cooling solution (something like the Hyper212+) would be a good "budget" choice and would still support over-clocks of 4.5GHz+ on an i5-2500k.

Thanks guys! I've thought about getting the CM Hyper 212+, and now after a few of you have chimed in... I think I'm going to go with it (saves a good 25-30 bucks). I WILL be keeping the power supply though... I'm one of those guys that believe having sufficient power will help my system last longer. Also, I'm going to drop the 560Ti and aim for a GTX 570 😉

Hopefully after re-adjusting my build, I can stay within my budget!

So, I've been thinking... Since this is a gaming rig I'm trying to throw together, wouldn't it be more wise to get a cheaper processor & mobo? Before I came up with the build above, I wanted to jump into the i5-2400 with a $70-80 H67 mobo. That would help me budget out a few more bucks to invest in my video card...

i5-2400 ($150) + Biostar TH67+ ($75)

Yay or nay?

i5-2500k is a seriously solid CPU. Id stick with it unless your budget really doesn't allow for it. As zero_ said, the reviews for the BIOSTAR are actually pretty good.

i5-2500k, z68 motherboard, 500w PSU and a 560Ti is going to pull together to give some fantastic gaming performance. Enough to max out all current games at 1920x1080 with at least 30 fps (Metro 2033 being the only exception).

Yea, I was really looking into the 560Ti, until some of the guys here were saying the 570 would be the better choice for gaming... I mean, yea of course it will, but at the extra cost of 80 or so bucks, I'd have to cut corners somewhere else to stay within budget.

Hyper212+ is 16cm tall, any case wider than 18cm should be fine. 19cm wide is ideal, with 22cm ish if you wish to use a side fan as well.

As for 560Ti vs 570....well the 560Ti will overclock to similar performance to a stock 570. That being said obviously the 570 can overclock as well....bottom line really being, buy what fits your budget. Both are great cards and both will max all current games with the exception of METRO 2033. If you really find yourself struggling in 6month-1year, add a second 560Ti then....they should be nice and cheap by that point 😀

Might be worth considering 560Ti then put any spare money towards a 60GB SSD :) Just an idea (Y)

I was tossing around the idea of getting an SSD, but then that'll probably be later down the road. And having the 2500K + 560Ti was my original plan... then throwing in another card whenever I feel the need to. That way I get a processor that has a lot more overclocking headroom whenever I really need to speed things up a couple years from now 😛

Yea, I just noticed your build was very similar to what I was originally wanting. The new rig is suppose to be build to play some of the newer games coming out, ex: Rage, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, etc... I'm sure the 560Ti is still very capable of playing everything on maxed settings @ 1920x1080 res.

Diablo 3 and RAGE, yes. However theres more of a question mark over BF3. It will certainly play it with maxed details, but i have a feeling AA / Tesselation may have to go to about x4 and "Normal" rather than x8 AA and "High/Extreme" Tesselation. Once again though, the game isn't released so its impossible to know.

Hmm... I might have to save up a little longer for a 2500K + 570 combo then. Just to prevent myself from running into that problem with AA.

So many goodies, yet they all burn holes in your pocket!
