[b]How I encountered this issue:

So it seems pretty common, but it's my first time fighting this one out. About 2 nights ago I was doing some gaming', and I accidentally removed the power from my router, which is right by my chair. I plugged in the power again, and faced the yellow triangle of doom. I ran the simple windows diagnostic, and got this error.

Things I've attempted:

- Restarting the PC, multiple times
- Restarting the router, multiple times. (leaving both off for atleast 60 seconds)
- Running ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig/release.

Somethings to note:

- When running ipconfig/all, my ipv4 address begins with a 169, which is a problem that i'm not sure how to address.

- After running ipconfig/renew, we idle for sometime, then receive the error message: An error occurred while renewing the interface Ethernet : unable to contact you DHCP server. Request has timed out.

- I'm not sure if this has much to do with anything, but my ethernet cable works properly with my laptop, and that's how i'm posting this now, and our wifi still works.

- My computer itself, where the ethernet cable plugs in has a solid orange light, and a very very seldom flashing yellow light. The router has a solid green light.

- When doing ipconfig/all my ipv4 is a 169, and the default gateway is simply blank. DHCP is enabled, and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

Anyone thats willing to help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Solution
I'm fairly certain it is related to DHCP. Most PC's default to an IP address of 169.XXX... if they cannot contact a DHCP server. A few ideas:

- Manually assign your PC an ip address of 192.168.0.30 (the address doesn't matter too much but it cannot be occupied and must be a private IP). Do this through "Network and Sharing Centre" and then adapter settings. Try pinging 192.168.0.1 and try accessing the internet.
- Reset your router (either in the settings or using the "reset" hole, not sure where it us so look around for it).

Try the first option before doing this since I'm fairly certain that should fix it. Also have you tried using a different port on the router?

I manually assigned that exact address, instead of 192.168.0.1 or .10, and it worked. I changed the address, then moved my ethernet up one port in the router, and pinged as you said and bam. I'm back to battlefield. Thanks friend, You're a friggin lifesaver if i've ever met one!!
