has Nvidia made another paper launch with 6800 series? cuz i cant find them in any stores... only on review sites they have reviews of it. I don't like what nvidia is doing they are really going down fast with this un-professional attitude. im going to buy x800 just becaouse at least they are availabe everywhere.

Yea but you are making a mistake of not waiting.

The new driver are said to boost nv performance by 30% giving them a big advantage over ATI.

And dont forget that nv has ps 3.0...

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb)
Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360
1024mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2)
Asus A7N8X-X

its not paper launch cause people do have it, in Taiwan sites, tons of people already got them. un-professional attitude? whaaaaa? u can't really blame them, blame the PCB and Chip manufactors. One more thing, NV40 is alot more advance than R420 silicon wise, therefore its failure rate, speed of production, packaging is affected by this.

Don't forget, nVidia cards have awesome bundles, BBAs don't.

Do you really want to breathe that much fumes 24/7 in Taiwan? You're in New Zealand right now right?

With every driver release Nvidia promises a 30% performance increase.

Well at least you have X800 Pros available

Here in the UK theres f*** all available atm. I'm waiting for the X800 XT and at current supply level its gonna be July/August before they arrive.

I read an article somewhere (theregister or theinquirer I think) that said that UK sales of mid/high range graphics cards have virtually stopped because everyone is waiting for the X800/G6800 to come out. The first company to get a steady supply of them is likely to make a lot of money.

Oh well, I'm only buying a new card so that I can play HL2/D3 at full res/quality so I guess I wont get annoyed about it until one of those two is released.

Hehe  Well, as far as I am concerned, my intuition, among other things, tells me that 6800 is the way to go. Of course, I cannot ask anyone to listen to me but personally, I learned the hard way to trust my intuition: whenever I used pure logic ignoring the intuition I almost always ended up making a mistake.

Another reason, naturally, is that eVGA allowed its customers to step-up to 6800 Ultra even though the cards are not yet available for shipping. If you have an eVGA card which is less than 90 days old go here and register for your upgrade to the 6800 Ultra. They will email you once your new card is ready for processing.

This is a bit different 61.11 already boosted the performance 20% on lower reses, higher reses 30%. (far cry as an example)

That is a good indication that these aren't cheats. Because the % various depending on gpu overload seems to be on par with how chip architecture is set up.

The 61.11 are still full of crap like dumbing down partial precision in FarCry (of course nV saying it's CryTek's fault [despite being a TWIMTBP game]).

The 30% is a MAX, and not even an average. For FarCry the number was 20% not 30%.

And for other areas the increase was 5-10% so these 'new' divers (61.11) you're talking about have been out for a long time for reviewers, and they still don't help enough to change the results. The 61.34 and 61.46 may change that, but since the 61.11 aren't even released on nV's site yet, then I doubt the ability of these so called Magic drivers. The 61.11 have proved ok, but far from something worthy of being called Magic Drivers.

I'd also like you to point them out, because if they can tell us the % increase (global of course and not just in one test), then they mucst have a number. You linked to the 61.11 before with infor that did NOT give 30% increase. So be more specific, because otherwise it's just more FUD on your part. Paper Launch Drivers.

BTW, someone told me the next magic Catalysts will increase performance 527% across all lines including the R2XX. Which means even the R9000Pro will kill the GF6800 series. Can't wait, I love MAGIC drivers.

Yes that is why I said those weren't the new drivers.

61.12 is the new released driver set.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/r420-2_12.html

These are half life 2 benchmarks. With Nvidia's old drivers the 6800 leads most of the time, and even when it goes behind it isn't by much the new drivers will take care of that. Even a 5% increase thats all the 6800 needs in most applications. its a 20-30% incease in Dx 9 applications depending on resolution. Not just in Far Cry. And a 5-10% increase in Ogl applications depending on resolution.

higher the res the higher the percentage. As the GPU is strained more its performance inceases works more efficiently (works like this for ATI cards too and all chips aswell).

yes they are still using a lower precision which hopefully is corrected.

This isn't people telling others if 61.11 did that and .12 is even faster whats the catch? Ok precision is lower. That can be changed, take it off Far Cry settings in the drivers. Reviewers probabaly did this the equalize the optimiztions. If you don't put it on Far Cry in the drivers settings it will use the lower precision. When this is active the card now uses nV specific paths

The drivers you gave a link to ar the 60.72, the ones after that are the 61.11 (61.12 is likely W98), after that is the 61.34 & 61.46 that have been floating around.

The 61.11 didn't increase Painkiller enough, and dropped Halo, and had major increases in AA+AF, not raw power.

So until they come out I don't trust MAgic drivers without benchies. The 61.11 have been benched extensively, and that's against ATI's ACTUAL drivers that you can grab off their site, whereas even the 60.72 aren't at nV yet.

PAPER, Paper, paper.

because they are beta drivers, Nv won't post anything but release unless they have to. In thier registered developers site all the beta drivers are there.

So what does that mean to the consumer?

I'm not talkig about engineering samples of the R500 either. We are talking about things people can use.

This is getting more and more like the FX line.

Wait for magic drivers, no not these magic drivers, the next ones, no no wiat, by next ones we meant next next ones, not this last one, hey wait, don't worry about drivers, we have new hardware look over here, and forget about drivers.

Yeah post me some serious hard evidence, heck even just bench your rig when you get that GF6800 you've been saying would arrive real soon. Then I'll believe some of this driver FUD.
