The headcrabs are those little things that lunge at you right? Do they go by
a different name once they have a host body?

Thanks again...

Yes. Also note that in Half-life2 there are two kinds of headcrab. The
second (quicker) headcrab is less harmful but potentially much more
dangerous as it poisons the bloodstream and makes you more vulnerable to
other attacks.

And that is even touching on their damage potential after they've
'mated' with a host.

The ones from Morocco weren't crabs, they were terrapins.

I would have thought that being so big and only jumping for your groin they
would have been much easier to dispatch with your trusty shotgun - Never go
anywhere without it.

P.S. If you dare to suggest that you got them off Alyx I'll come round and
shoot you myself!

What is it with needing to know the name of everything? Just shoot the
buggers and ask questions later.

If you're thinking of building a mod, and wondering what the monsters
are called, they'll probably something different, like
monster_sweetlips. The security guard in HL1 was known as Barney coz it
turned out that was what the devlopers called him backstage. On screen
he was just nameless cannon fodder.

Right,

Normal headcrab, white, cute and cuddly, makes the 'normal' zombie 😉

Fast Headcrab, white also and long legged, makes the 'leaper' zombies.

Poison Headcrab, black and red, lazy, travels in packs on a 'carrier'
zombie, which will throw these at you....they're too lazy to run and
jump on you themselves 😉 they cause quite a speech from the HEV suit.

True enough. I thought the zombies thrown made the crack zombies. Oh
well. Another day another lesson learnt.

They are certainly not lazy. When they get pissed off they are lethal.

They also have a name : Head Humpers.

Yes, they're then called "lawyers".

You can still kill them with a handgun though.

Easy to get of! Stab them with an icepick! The best method is to catch
them out in the open. Shave one side clean, set the other side of yer
pubic forest on fire (lighter fluid will work) and when the bastiges
come running out into the open, stab away!

Do you really want to aim towards your groinal area with a scattergun?

Poison headcrabs. Walk on four legs, dark grey, squat, slightly hairy, tough as
old boots (they burn for ages before they die). Carried in bunches by poison
zombies (the ones with the hunched walk), who like to throw them at you.

Fast headcrabs are different. They run on four spindly very sharp legs, stand
taller, are light-coloured and are... well... fast! Worn as headgear by fast
zombies.

Ordinary headcrabs are light-coloured, red-legged, slow, walk on their hind legs
in an amusing waddle with the front legs waving like little arms. Generally
worn with a bloody white shirt and blue trousers.

Actually, that is precisely as far as I got in HL1 :)

I paid pretty close attention to the fauna in HL2, looking for new
species as any great naturalist would 😉 I even kept an eye out for the
places the old gameplay footage showed that had creatures that didnt
make to the final cut. Like the hydra. haven't seen those exact spots
yet. Going back and forth thru the game looking tho! If you're
interested in observing the behavior patterns of these three species of
headcrabs, then I have just the spot :) On leaving Ravenholme, you go
thru the mines (kind of like LOTR 1 eh? Mines of Moria? 😉 ). If you
drop carefully down the shaft, from beam to beam, you can land on the
last one that jutts out a little ways, sit there and just pick em off.
You can also see the three distinct versions. The 'crack' headcrabs
must be a very evolved species indeed. Look at the differences between
their 'crack zombie' (that I call the Leapers) and the original slo-mo
stumbles along kind. The leaper crab almost totally converts the host
that it's a parasite to. Impressive. But the poison ones, must be a
throwback.

well you can always get them the good old 'punk' way....

Shave the pubes on the left half. Douse the hairy half with lighter
fluid. Light it. When the crabs scurry out to the shaved side, just
stab em with an ice pick! 😉

Or to save time, don't bother shaving, just douse the pubes and set fire to
the lot.
