My new system is:

Intel Q6600 G0 (maybe some overclocking)
Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
8GB 1066 Kingston DDR-2
BFG 8800 GTX

2 hard drives, a samsung dvd / rw, and some case fans.

The PSU: Corsair 450 vx

This has one 12v rail that supplies 33A, I think this should just be enough for the system but I'm not sure.

Actually, you have some, but not a lot of, reserve power.

Q6600 OC'd 10 amps @12 volts (my Q6600 OC'd to 3.6 GHz - 9.5 amps, measured
8800GTX: 11 amps at 12 volts
MB: 5 amps @ 5 volts, negligible 12 volts (my GA-EP35 - 3.5 amps ,measured)
RAM: 12 amps @ 3.3 volts max (my RAM 2GB, 3 amps, measured)
Drives: less than 4 amps @ 12 volts, 3 amps @ 5 volts
Fans: 1 amp @12 volts

I estimate that a 450 watt Corsair would run at around 85% load. 450 watt PSU will do. 550 watt better. I would use a 650 watt PSU for a similar system. Oh, wait. I am. :)

I try to operate my computer power supplies at 50 - 65% load (military electronics background.

thanks guys, in an ideal world I would play it safe and have more room for expansion but I only get £20 a week from paper round + jobs and I already have this 450 vx so I'm going to use that.

on a side note I think I'm going to go for an 8800 gts and not gtx, does this have any more / less power consumption?
