Hi there. I really don't know much about computers, but need a new graphics card for my son's Dell XPS 420 computer.

It currently has the Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT card in it. This card has a power supply (6 pin) cord running to it and the power supply is only 375W.

It has the dual core CPU in it (intel E8400 3.0 GHz, 1333 MHz) and it is running Win 8 without issues.

I am looking for a card that is at least as good as the geforce 9800 GT. He is a gamer, but mostly Minecraft, etc.

So, what can I get that will work for this system? I have looked at other posts, but it seems that the technology changes so fast that many of the ones I see are discontinued.

Thanks.

Is then card broken and he was happy with it until it broke? If so then you could replace it like for like. Are you looking to upgrade? If so, by looking at current GPU's you will almost certainly end up buying a card that will be held back by the rest of the system.

He was happy with it prior to it breaking. The issue is that I cannot find the same card in Canada. They are all listed as "not available". I am hoping to find a card that is available now and will work at least as well at the old one. I am not too concerned about the card being held back. I can always use it when I upgrade the entire machine.

As long as I can find something compatible and works at least as well as the 9800 GT, I will be happy.

In that case buy whatever current card your comfortable with the price of. Almost anything today will be an upgrade.

The main thing's to be mindful of are the power consumption of the card needs to be less than the capabilities of your PSU and your PSU must have a spare and relevant power connector if your buying a card that requires power directly from the PSU.

Excellent! I will take a look for that. As long as it runs with what I have, I will be happy. I do have a power cord coming off my power supply for the video card, so I should be good.

Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it.
