I have an antec earthwatts 500, I want to crossfire two 5770's ati's website recommends a 600watt psu, I'm also running an amd am2+ phenom 9850 125 watt quad core and an seagate barracuda 7200.12 750gb hdd, shpuld I upgrade or will this psu work? the maximum board draw is 108watts for a single 5770

The Antec 500 watt unit will most likely have no problems with powering it but you will be at its max power I would upgrade asap. The Antec unit is a good unit and will not take other components with it when it dies it will simply just shut down thats what is good about quality PSU's.

yes but at peak loads (tons of info on screen in game) can stress the PSU to the breaking point, which means it can take out other components. If they recommend it, I would do it, don't take the chance, it could work fine for a year, or a day, blow 2 videocards, PSU and the mainboard, I am sure you won't be in a good mood. It's not even worth the chance.

I'll give it a week before you replace the PSU. If ATI recommends 600w I'd say go one better and get a 750, I had a 4870 and a 550w PSU and Sapphire recommended at least a 500w, it worked for a few days, got really stuck into Farcry one day and couldnt stop playing and then beooowwwwwmmmm, whole thing powered down. most PSUs cannot perform to their wattage spec as that's the perfect scenario, perfect amperage and voltage, temperature etc. think of it like the MPG on a car, they will always give you the best estimate.

You had a bad power supply.

the Earthwatts series is a quality PSU line. Because your PSU blew, it was most likely you did not have a quality PSU.
