I just got an Antec kuhler 650 liquid cooler (it was used), and installed it on a Asus Z97-E. My idle temps are running around 50-60 C though so I'm not sure if the problem is the cooler or just my motherboard settings. The main thing I cant figure out is how to make it work with fan xpert 3.

The manual says to disable Q-Fan, my motherboard doesn't have that though. I've been looking around and people say to make sure the voltage is 100%. Not exactly how to do that with this board though. I went into the fan xpert and dragged the slider for the cpu_fan so that its just always 100%. Now the cooler is just running really loudly but the temps don't seem to be dropping. Also, I'm using Artic Silver 5 paste, I redid it twice and am getting the same results so I dont think its that.

Is there anything im missing? Should I try connecting it to a molex directly? or is this cooler just faulty (I prob shouldnt have bought 2nd hand).

Specs:
Intel 4690k
Asus Z97-E Board
Antec Kuhler 650
Asus R9 290

Solution
When you got that high temp in idle, only two reasons: 1) improperly install the cooler 2) the cooler has problem. At least you said the fan runs at full speed but the temp is same. That why I recommend to watch the video to make sure you do the right. Otherwise the cooler has problem.

If the installation is correct, the cooler has problem, because the temp is too high. You may try to watch some videos for how to installation online, then reinstall it again, by the way you used the AS5, it has the "break-in" period. http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm So after that, if you still get the same temp, if you can return it, then do it. If you can't, then sorry you are better to buy other one.
