Anti-static wrist band

I wasn't sure where to put this question so i just put it here.

Anyways, i'm helping a friend building a pc. He have ordered all the parts and expect them to arrive in a week or so. Do you really need an anti-static wrist band when building a computer?

you can always play safe but most people who never used one never damaged anything cuz of it

I use one , but not everyone does when building.

As pointed out, if you keep yourself grounded and discharge any static electricity you may have charged BEFORE yoo work on your system, you don't need a wrist band.

If you aren't sure, or don't want to take the risk, it is a small price to pay (to buy and use one) for peace of mind.
