It happens everytime. When I game, im browsing, etc.It could be running a scan, idle is when PC does background processes that are designed to speed PC up, so its a perfect time for it to run a scan since you aren't using it currently.
I don't have defender so mine uses no ram...
Could run a scan to see if it reduces usage.
could be malware (yes, I know, irony). Try running Malwarebytes and see if it finds anything.

8gb. Switching to 16 on SaturdayHow much ram have you got?
Could try running Bitdefender Free, I am not 100% sure it will replace anti malware though, it should. It might have less usage on PC than Defender does - https://www.bitdefender.com.au/solutions/free.html
Is BitDefender a good AV? I usually use MalwareBytes.i use bitdefender (not the free version) and with 16gb of ram, it uses .2% of ram max when PC is idling, it won't run any scans unless I schedule them.
I did use defender earlier in year and I didn't notice its usage to be that high, I was expecting it to be higher than it was. I normally use Bitdefender but I had it uninstalled while trying to fix another problem.
Oh. I've heard bad reviews about kaspersky but I have never used it. Like I said, I only use Defender and Malwarebytes. Thanks!Bitdefender and Kapersky fight it out for being top detection for each month

I like it, it leaves me alone and only bugs me if it has to.
