After suspecting my PC of having some sort of malware because of certain games crashing randomly and browser feeling way slower I downloaded kaspersky virus removal tool. After a scan it found a "trojan" in system32. I proceeded to delete it and after that a pop up saying i should restart the pc. I didn't restart the pc and the scan continued after which my screen went full blank gray, no more windows functions acces blank. After a restart everything seems to be normal again. Could it be possible kaspersky detected a false threat in system32 and by deleting it i harmed my OS which is it what caused the blank screen? Usually i just reinstall OS to make sure but this i have a lot of piled up work files that i dont want to back up right now just to reinstall OS would like to avoid it if possible and keep my everything as is.

You could also use Malwarebytes and see if it picks up anything. This has been said a couple of times on the forums, which is if you practice safe browsing habits and don't click on questionable links, not to mention source questionable executables, you'll be fine with Windows Defender that comes bundled with Windows 10 and 11.

I know that, i already used malwarebytes and didnt pickup anything. Only kaspersky did. What is done is done. What im asking is could kaspersky make a mistake?

It seems to me you are in a difficult situation. You no longer have the file; neither you have the detail of the trojan. Any AV can find false positives, but your real trojan may be in system32 too. Being "I want to know" kind of guy, I would hate to be in your position too.

The milk has spilled. If you are sure there is nothing suspicious left, just keep using the machine until something isn't right. Keep backups of your data.

Before my kaspersky licence ran out i got rid of it for 2 reasons.

1. Watch the news .... thats all i will say on that ....

2. I got fed up with it throwing false positives at me , i have a large collection of games from years ago that i used for trips down " memory lane " . I lost count of the number of times it challenged me when i put in the discs that were used to wake up the games , even the log and ignore warnings would not let me carry on. It even stopped me re-installing Diablo 3 from blizzard.

I now use ESET and in the 20+ years of being a pc user it is the best av i have used , it " learns " what it has scanned before so the more scans you do the faster it gets.
