I just bought a new PC that has Dual Radeon HD6790 PCI Express cards in crossfire. I plan on using dual monitors. Applications that I use are Photoshop, CAD, and 3D development applications. Is there any or much benefit of the crossfire configuration when using dual monitors and the apps I'm running? Is it hard to switch to separate cards (disconnecting crossfire)? Is it just a matter of physically disconnecting the cards some how or are there some additional configurations also involved?

sounds like a really strange config to be honest, what back alley pre-built did you buy?

for productivity it depends on if the app can take advantage of amds compute functions although tbh i am really in the dark on that one ...

just strange that a new pc would come with such a graphics config being that the 6790s are basically fodder cards... im scratching my head on that one

Could it be becouse i am running 2 screens ?
one for my game and one for skype.

Here are my specs:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5504 @ 2.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
12288MB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series (crossfire)
