Any books available?

Are their any REALLY good books on FS2004? Really good books, not just a
rehashing of the help contents that come with the program. I really love
this program, but I don't get to use it enough, and when I do open it up, I
feel lost again, like there is too much for me to know to really have a good
time. My main interests would be creating flight plans, both using FS2004
and FS Navigator. I am also lost when approaching airports for landings. I
have no idea how to find and enter the proper landing pattern.

If there are no books, are their any good web sites on tutorials?
Thanks

I'm no expert on the subject, but if you use ATC in FS2004 you will receive
pattern entry instructions at controlled airports. If you're VFR you will
hear something like "Fly left downwind runway 22" and if you're IFR you will
be vectored into the pattern. Speaking of IFR, if you need to get up to
speed on instrument flying, then I would recommend Charles Woods Navigation
Tutorial available at http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/index.htm If you follow
the tutorial step by step, and actually do all of the flights, it will all
come together for you. It's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun and
very rewarding.

I bought the Sybex book on FS 2004. It's true that most of it is based on
the Learning Center material that comes with the sim, but there are a number
of VFR and IFR scenarios (that they call "challenges") that they walk you
through, and I found that useful as a beginner.

Amazon lists a not-yet-published book, "Microsoft Flight Simulator Pilot's
Guidebook" (Hungry Minds, due January 24, 2006), which could be interesting.

I'm pleased to say that the best books for FS2004 are just plain old "learn
to fly" books.

These people publish some fine entry level stuff:

They even offer a free book:

Hi Dave

I have a couple of guides, both for different versions of the same
game: SimCity2000 and SimCity4. These guides were published by Prima
Games and are quite good, IMO.

I've had a quick peek at <URL:http://www.primagames.com/> and came
across
<URL:http://www.primagames.com/strategy/game/search/?Search=flight+simulator>.
You'll notice that nothing covers FS releases beyond FS2000. However,
you might be able to pick up a cheap FS2000 guide quite cheaply from
somewhere. Dunno.

Also, Prima seems to specialise in strategy-style games rather than
out-and-out simulations.
