I'm looking for a good cooler for a Q6600 SLACR Oc'd to 3ghz, but I'm seeing some possible size restrictions from an Antec900 case. Some of the Zalman coolers seem more midtower freindly. Anybody with personal experience? I havent got the parts yet so all thoughts welcome. I would like to get an OCZ Vendetta 2. My price range is no more than 50 dollars anyway.

I'd recommend the Sunbeam core contact freezer or Xigmatek S1283. They're both the best performing coolers and they're both under $40. Crazy Pc seems to have a better price than newegg on them.

Okay, well that helps cause that was one of the bigger ones. Would you suggest that as a good cooler for a OC'd Q6600 GO to 3ghz? Thanks for the help.

Hey LAN_deRf_HA, you posted while I was typing that last message. Sorry. thanks for the suggestions I'm definatly looking for a bargain as this is my first build. But I dont want any compatabilty issuses. So again thanks for suggestions yall.

Um like I said Its my first build, Isn't there a fan input plug on most new mobos (like say asus P5Q) for the fan on that SunbeamTech cooler to control the CPU temps automaticaly? If I can get it to maintain an automatic temp I can control the overall temp further, by adjusting the case fans speeds on Antec900 case. Any suggestions?

I recommend the Zalman 9700. It lowered my temps by 10C. It also works perfectly with the Antec 900. The fan shoots the air right out of the top where the fan is on the case. Really hard to beat combo.

Hey pbrigido, That Zalman 9700 looks great but is so high at Newegg ($79!). But only $59 at buy.com. Still 10 dollars more than the SunbeamTech just recomended, which do you think would be a better fit? It says "Compatible with most of the mid-tower / full-tower cases and most of the motherboards in the market"
Do you guys know if the Zalman or Sunbeamtech will fit in spite of the heat sinks/pipes on several models of the Asus P5Q mobo? I have been recommended one with them. And i read a review on new egg that said it "looked like" some coolers might not fit. I got worried. Thanks for the input guys keep em coming.

Honestly I am not sure. I know that the position of the Zalman 9700 in my Antec 900 case fits perfectly. There is maybe 1 inch between the top of the heatsink and the side of the case. I would compare the height of the 9700 and other heatsinks out there just to make sure you have room. I had actually purchased the Xigmatek S1283, but had a really difficult time getting the push pin configuration to seat properly in the mobo. The 9700 has a backplate that actually screws into the mobo for a very tight and secure fit.

Okay, Thnaks man that helps, I'll have to check out thew height now that I know that. I guess I'll have to start a thread in the Asus forum and see what I get about the heat sinks and pipes on the Asus mobo. Thanks for the help bout the case man. Peace
