Hi all, I'm a long time reader of these forums but a first time caller 😱)
I'm finally ready to hit the "checkout" button on a long-overdue new rig for gaming/video editing/3d animation and I'd love to get the current opinion on the new IB-E 4930k!
I had all but decided on throwing a 3930k into the PC but these new 4930k CPUs have me intrigued - from what I've read, the performance difference between them & the previous 3930k is negligible but, at a price difference of around $15 here in Australia, would it be wise to get the new gen CPU for better longevity?
I plan to overclock the CPU a little (around 4.2-4.4Ghz) using an EVGA X79 Dark M/B and will be using an EVGA GTX 780 Classified ACX graphics card. I expect that setup to last me a few years before needing an upgrade but, if I find it struggling on future games, I figured I can always add another 780 to stretch the rig out a bit further (they should be cheaper in a year or two anyway).
I know this very question/debate has been sparked on these forums a few times but most of the threads I found were from before the 4930k retail CPU was actually available to the public - I'm hoping there are a few people out there with some real world experiences to bring to the table 😀
Thanks in advance!
