Dragon Age Origins is on sale for $5 on Steam now. It's from about 2009, but still really good and it won countless awards when it first released.

I'd recommend Far Cry 3, but it looks like you already know about it. X3

I could list more games everyone knows about, but I don't think that would really help.

So... Zeno Clash 1 and Zeno Clash 2. They're first person brawler/fighting games. They're not really polished, but they're fun and well optimized with an interesting art direction (described by the developers as anarchy-punk). The second one is sort of open world.
Also, they're on sale on Steam every couple months, so it's not hard to get them cheap.

Two Worlds II is a somewhat generic RPG. But it's fluid and the graphics are still nice, and it's got a nice open world to explore with boats and horses and whatnot.
