Any good war sims?

Hello again,

Could someone recommend a good war simulater? I don't want a flying one or tanks or any other vehicle's. I want a infantry or special ops sim. Do they even make those? If they dont then recommend me the most realistic war or shooting game.

There's also Operation Flashpoint, though that includes planes, tanks and other vehicles. I think you can get Flashpoint and both expansion packs for about $10 these days.

Not the best graphics ever, but a fun game and a number of armies use the 'professional' version for combat training.

How realistic is Battlefield 2?

Oh come on why has no one said Arma yet... Operation Flashpoint yes but that’s 8 years old now. Arma (Armed Assault) is the unofficial sequel to Operation Flashpoint and is just as good if not better and also includes much-needed graphical enhancements and newer weapons, equipment and vehicles. It does have tanks jeeps plains and choppers but then you don’t need to use any of these. It is an extremely open ended game that lets you play in any way you want.

You even get to lead your own squad and give orders like you would in real tactical situations. Hell you don’t even need to drive the transports if you don’t want to, you can ask one of your squad members to do so. Till about 1 year ago it was OFP hands down, now that Arma has been released that has taken it’s place. You will not get a more realistic war simulation than these two games.

I mean what other game do you get that if you get shot in the leg you end up limping and if you end up **** both your legs you have to crawl back to your objective. Hell even being shot in the arm affects your accuracy. And a shot to the face does mean you are dead, not just slightly slowed down or that you get a red screen for a second or two.

If you want a good war sim there is no contest, get Armed Assault.

Call of Duty 4 looks great...

Most games aren't necessarily that realistic.. I mean shooting someone from 900 yards into the wind takes a little bit of skill .... you just don't point a click with scope. bullets drop in a natural parabolic arch? if you want really realistic haha....

I like F.E.A.R. the slow motion and the girl shooting out flames was pretty sweet.. and the Ant Lions in Half Life 2 ? You could totally open an inter dimensional portal to an Alien World ? I mean that's probably why Hillary Clinton is running for President? Unforseen Consequences Mr. FreeMan.... lol... thats believable...

Oh yeah Arma has this feature, not sure about wind but it is quite probable that is a factor too.

Yeah there is a demo, but unless it's been updated it will not run very well. The full game runs great though. Thing about OFP and ARMA is that it is too realistic and does take some getting used to. I think that is down to all the games that are so unrealistic becoming the norm making all realistic games seem strange.

But once you get over that initial hurdle the game turns in to one of the best experiences you will ever have, turning that realistic games comment on it’s head. I can still remember that moment in OFP when my whole squad gets killed and I have to make my way back to the retreat point by my self with a whole battalion of enemy’s scattered around the 10 kilometres to the retreat point. The funny thing is the whole game is not scripted what so ever.

I had to sprint through a forest and managed to find a car lying at a derelict house. I stole the car and had to speed away from 2 BMP’s But unfortunately I buckled the cars front rendering it useless and had to sprint to a nearby wood where I discovered there was about 3 squads who noticed me coming strait at me. Forcing me to crawl on my belly for about 500 metres till I could run away from them on a 4 kilometre sprint with them bursting out fire at me.

That’s the thing, if I taken that like any other game and tried to just take on all those 3 squads by my self I would have been handed my testacies to play with. It is virtually imposable to play OFP or ARMA like you would any other first person shooter. If you do you will get very annoyed and just end up hating the game. Similar to what it’s like with Hitman the game, you need to play that in a different play style than to what is the norm and a lot of people don’t like that.

But if like me you love change for the more realistic then you will love ARMA.

All you need is Call of Duty 4. It's excellent in both single-player and multi-player. It's not a hardcore "realism" game instead it opts for the "realism of movies" if that makes sense. It's outstanding modern war action.

Because it runs like crap and the sights keep moving for a second after you stop moving the mouse, so hitting ?

I expected a lot from Armed Assault, but the demo was just horrible. I suppose it's possible that the full game is better, but the demo was so bad I never had any desire to investigate further.

Stuff by Tom Clancy: He's made so much stuff, your millage may vary on any individual game.

COD 4. Hardcore/Real mode. Unfortunately there's no easy way to sort for this in the server list.

Haven't tried Arma or Red Orchestra.

Ah, yes. I would also go for the K98 or Springfield in every WWII game I played. I also love the M1 Garrand just for the semi-auto, plus the sound when you run out of ammo. So much fun.

Try the new demo version of ARMA (v1.06), the full game is up to v1.08 and it does include a fair amount of fixes over v1.06 but it should still be much better than v1.00 was. It was indeed very slow and sluggish and did not run at all like it should have. You should give it a second shot and if you find it has the same results then I guess the game is not for you. But for me the game runs superbly now, about 10 times better than it did 10 months ago.

OK... one thing I liked about Flashpoint was that the developers kept releasing patches and free upgrades for a long time after it was released.
