Any High Graphic Game Shuts Down PC

When starting any game that requires reasonable graphics, (i.e. fps games, Skyrim, WIC, space sims) my pc shuts down as soon as I boot the game. It doesn't even get to the point that graphics are needed just flicks onto a black screen to start the loading process then 0.5 seconds later "blap" - shut down.
The strange thing is that I can play Bejeweled 3 on 1920x1200 with 3D accel and animated backgrounds so the computer is obviously capable of showing high res.
I even tried going retro on the fps and playing COD:MW2 but again "blap" instantly after starting the game.
Cpu temps are at around 40, GPU around 30-40 (obviously before attempting game starts as I don't get time to see any changes before everything shuts down)
I starting to get withdrawl symtoms from lack of shooting people, please help.

System:
AMD Phenom II 4x 3.4 GHz
RAM: 16 GB DDR3
Nvidia GTX460 (1GB) driver ver: 9.18.13.4475
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Solution

The PSU shutdown. The GPU is the component that consumes the most amount of power and your power supply wasn't able to handle it. Your PSU uses cheap components that doesn't last long. It will work for the first few months and maybe for a long time if it was a non-GPU system which the majority of the market is and that is how the manufacturer gets away with it
Power supply is PowerX3 Pro model: PXPro800 - 800 watt

Ram is Crucial 2x 8gb sticks

I used to be able to play BF4 onto pretty high settings and Skyrim, MW2 maxed out. Something has changed but I don't have a clue what.

Nothing in the PC is overclocked.

Interestingly Afterburner showed the ram clock at 1800 and I'm fairly certain the ram is PC1333 1600 - which I assume means 1600 max clock speed.
I've now set it at 1600 max and will try running MW2, if you don't hear from me it means the pc crashed again and buggered the HD - last time took 2 hours with the windows rescue system :)

Ok, that didn't work, although I did get to see the splash screen for an exciting second or so - then shut down.
Good news, didn't need to rebuild windows.
Sudden thought - is the memory clock refered to in afterburner the gpu memory clock? - If yes, what should it be set at and how do I check the ram clock speed?

Slight update: used the Display Driver Uninstaller to completely clear old remnants of the display driver (it did say driver was wrongly installed).

This allowed MW2 to get past the splash screen and show about 2 seconds of the Infinity logo before the pc shut down.

Not sure what this proves but things are slowly improving.

Willl check bios after the next crash, thanks George.

The manufacturer has lied to you. Check this thread, it's a bit technical

It looks like about a 350 Watter, maybe 400W. I sure do hope it wasn;t labelled as an 800W (like the model number suggests).

Interesting, why would this only become a problem in the last month or so? Prior to that I was running BF4 with no problems.
I used the OCCT tester earlier, cpu tests ran happily for 5 minutes (then I stopped it), gpu 3d test shut down the pc instantly on starting it. I assumed this showed a faulty graphics card, is it possible that the psu shut down instead?
