This is a new build for a friend. He wants a gaming rig that will last him a while, without breaking the bank. Budget around 1500€ (~1800 $).

Extra requirements:
* Case should not be too big (easy transportable by car)
* System not too loud (he does audio recording sometimes with very sensitive mics)

This is what I came up with so far..

Build: PcPartPicker build

  • ■ CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600 3.1GHz 6-Core Processor (€219.00 @ Paradigit)
    ■ CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 612 Ver.2 44.2 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler (€49.95 @ Bytes At Work)
    ■ Motherboard: ASRock - H370 Pro4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€115.00)
    ■ Memory: Kingston - FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (€169.00 @ Paradigit)
    ■ Storage: Crucial - MX500 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€130.95 @ Bytes At Work)
    ■ Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB Video Card (€657.95 @ Bytes At Work)
    ■ Case: Fractal Design - Define C with Window ATX Mid Tower Case (€89.00 @ Bytes At Work)
    ■ Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (€69.95 @ Paradigit)
Total: €1500.80

Any inconsistencies or improvements that you can spot?
Thanks for the time and advice already!

i7-8700 and GTX1080 is a decent performance gain over i5-8600 and GTX1070Ti with around 20% gains. Nothing cheap all high quality components.

Very interesting overall changes, I will look into them, thanks! If I could fit a GTX 1080 without bumping price too much, that would be great.

Not only GTX1080 but also i7 for similar price.

Yes, but the case is kind of a factor, since it had sound proofing material. However we are now considering this: https://be.pcpartpicker.com/user/falxfalx/saved/wcy6XL

Which takes your suggestions for a better PSU, better GPU, but lowers to an i5-8400 CPU which should be a better price/value ratio and about the same performance as the i5-8600.
I suspect that for gaming, pairing this with the gtx 1080 will still run as a beast.

(mind you that my friend is definitly **not** gaming in 4k, just fullhd)
