Has anyone had any trouble with the C700 suddenly not recognizing good
batteries? And, if so, did you learn what the problem was? Mine's doing
this -- the batteries and contacts are already checked out as fine.

Repeatedly,

Fred

Not in your particular model and make of camera, we have seen cameras having
cold solder connections, and or failed components internally doing your
description.

The most common cause of this type of failure is the camera being dropped,
or water getting in to it, and causing damage.

Ah so! Thanks, will check it out. At what points do you see some of the
failures?

The most you can do, if you are in to unassembling your camera, is to use a
meter and trace out the continuity of the connections and traces from the
battery contacts, through to the devices on the circuit board that they
enter.

At the manufacture service site, they change the complete boards in these as
a module if the fix is not a simple solder connection. Then they do the
calibration of the new board.

Considering the cost of one of these camera's, I would prefer to give it out
to the Olympus service rep and have an estimate done. They may not want to
charge too much to service it. If you take it apart and do any damage, or
need any service information or pieces, they will not sell them to you. You
would not have the proper set-up at home to do the diagnostics, and
calibration of the camera, if the need arises.

Thanks again, Jerry. Cost to repair at Olympus is a flat $155 regardless of
what it wrong. Earlier I called a dozen camera shops here in the LA area and
none of them work on this camera themselves - all just send Olympus' in to
the factory.

I'm pretty careful at taking apart these kinds of things, so will check out
the solder joints and post what I find out.

Thanks again!

Fred

You may want to check out the batteries. Some batteries are constructed
in such a way that they don't make good contact in some equipment. The
insulated shoulder around the outside may extend so far that the center
contact does not make contact.

I wish someone would *steal* Fred's camera, so that we never heard of it
again.

They should steal it, replace the batteries, and then return it......

My real regret is that having bought a used C700 and used it for two years
without a problem, I then went and sold it to buy up to a C750
which is even better. If I had known I would have sent it to Fred as the
amount of time saved reading his 'BATTERY' posts would have
been worth as much as I got for it.

I also had 2 years of excellent service from it. Probably all that
excessive used led to the power circuitry problem. This is a common problem
with this design and has already been confirmed by dozens of others. There
are several website devoted to it.

PS - The batteries are fine! :O)

Agreed. Mine opinion also. But these clowns are not interested in learning
something new - only in harassing those of us who are. My point was that
they need to look for that pesky old DELETE key and use it.
