I found a GTX 970 that requires a 400 watt psu minimum. Did anyone else find one other than the one I found? The one I found was a Gigabyte version.

Solution
It's important to account for power efficiency. If you measure at the wall socket, then add the efficiency to that, to get your more accurate number. There is no way a single GPU + CPU system pulls 400W or more, not even the current R9 cards.

I was looking for another 970 and stumbled upon this one cause it look cool. I went through all the pictures and it showed only one 8 pin.

I remember an EVGA GTX 660 requiring a 450w PSU and it has a 140w TDP, about 5w less than the GTX 970. My system running a single GTX 970 draws up to about 400w max without overclocking. You could get by with an upper-tier 450w or greater PSU on a non-overclocked PC. If you have a 400w PSU, then I would advise you to upgrade it. If you can find a good sale on a Tier 2 500w+ PSU, then by all means go for it. I see XFX TS PSUs on sale on Newegg right now.

Thumbs down for blower style fan.

they recommend 500w because even if the system only draws 400w, you are running 80% load at all times. that will shorten lifespan, create more heat, possible get less efficiency depending on the unit.

GTX970 can run with minimum 450W PSU, if the PSU is really good and it is also depends on what components you have in your rig plus no OC is possible in any form.....with an FX8350, no chance.
450W is really really really at limit!
I tried to run GTX970+E3-1231V3 on 450W due to emergency, yes, it will run....however...
The 450W PSU will work around 80-100% load in a system with a full load GTX970.
It is highly unwise to have a PSU running on near full-load for longer period.
Thus, I would not recommend anyone to run GTX970 with a 450W PSU.
The minimum requirement 500-550W is therefore a wisely written requirements.
